The Wayne Richards Memorial Tournament is held each year on the 1st Saturday in March. The tournament has been running for 36 years.

Wayne Richards coached SLV in the 1980’s. In 1983 he coached the only undefeated team in the programs history (24-0). SLV scored 306 runs, an average of 12.8 per game, while only allowing 32, and average of 1.3 a game. They won 9 games by shutout that year.

On the mound were Leslie (Saucy) Sherbourne and Claudine Dubreuil. Filling out the roster were Jackie Hale, Annie Paradise, Lori Roundy, Kris Surber, Dawn Malgren, Cindy Melter, Jennie Pearce, and Karen Scott – there are a few others too.

Coach Richards was quoted as saying “We’ll have a good team, even if we don’t jell. If we jell, we’ll have an excellent team.”
